Regular monitoring of radiation exposure is essential for student safety. In radiography programs, students wear dosimeters that track the dose from imaging procedures. The readouts are collected and reported on a monthly basis, which lets instructors quickly spot any unexpected increases and ensure the student’s cumulative exposure stays within safe limits. This frequency supports the principle of ALARA — keeping exposure as low as reasonably achievable — and allows timely intervention if something unusual occurs. Reporting more often (weekly) would add unnecessary admin work and might reflect short-term fluctuations, while reporting less often (quarterly or annually) could delay detection of rises in dose and delay protective actions.
